Heart Attack
This means the death of a portion of the heart muscle as a result of inadequate blood supply to the relevant area.

Cancer
This means a malignant tumour characterised by the uncontrolled growth and spread of malignant cells that requires treatment by surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biological response modifiers, or any other major interventionist treatment and includes cancers that are completely untreatable.

Stroke
This means a cerebrovascular accident or event producing objective neurological sequelae.

Paralysis
This means the total and permanent loss of function resulting from disease cord, of:
- one side of the body (Hemiplegia);
- both sides of the body (Diplegia);
- both legs (Paraplegia);
- both arms and both legs (Quadriplegia); or
- both arms and both legs together with loss of head movement (Tetraplegia).

Severe Accidental Injury
The insured person has suffered an injury that has resulted in them being confined to an acute care hospital for a period of 30 consecutive days (24 hours per day) under the full-time care of a medical practitioner. An injury is an injury to the insured persons body as a result of sudden, external, accidental and visible means.

Significant Cognitive Impairment
Significant cognitive impairment means a deterioration or loss of intellectual capacity that requires the insured person to be under continuous care and supervision by someone else. Significant Cognitive Impairment must be continuous for at least 6 months before you are eligible to make a claim.
Loss of Limbs or Sight:
This means the total and permanent loss of use of:
- both feet;
- both hands;
- both eyes;
- one hand and one foot; or
- the sight of one eye and the use of either one hand or one foot.
Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting*:
This means Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting to correct a narrowing or
blockage of one or more coronary arteries.
